This copper ornament is treated to look aged, as if it has been handled and circulated. This process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science. Coloring, and patinas will vary. A colorful description is included with history and facts about the ornament. Original illustration by @frankthehumanboy, engraving by Woody Maringer.
The origins of the Krampus mythology are unclear. Krampus is a horned figure in Alpine folklore who, during the Christmas season, scares children who have misbehaved. Assisting Saint Nicholas, or Santa Claus, the pair visit children on the night of 25 December, with Saint Nicholas rewarding the well-behaved children with modest gifts such as oranges, dried fruit, walnuts and chocolate, while the badly behaved ones only receive punishment from Krampus with birch rods. Since the 1980's, the character has become better known globally, having been portrayed in Hollywood films. [Information in the preceding paragraph is distilled from Wikipedia.]
