      Forty Years of Community Tradition

The 2023 Capitol Ornament salutes the cherished summer tradition of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra’s concerts on the grounds of the State Capitol. The lush green lawns are transformed into a colorful patchwork of blankets as concertgoers claim their favorite spot for an evening of music with friends and family. Described as “the biggest picnic of the summer,” the first Concert on the Square in 1984 was considered a resounding success by the Wisconsin State Journal. Over 250,000 patrons annually enjoy the six-concert series on the Capitol Square.
